Discharge Dyeing Class

Once again our Australian friend, Tania, taught us another fun technique.  This morning we went over to her house for a lesson on discharge dyeing of black fabrics.  The following are some pictures of some of the process using Softscrub with Bleach:
The fabric has a freezer paper kangaroo ironed on in the corner.

Tania is applying the Softscrub paste with a little bleach mixed in.
The change in color is almost immediate.
Some of our results.  It was very interesting to see the
different colors of the background once they dried.
These were my results.  What a fun time!  Thanks, Tania!!
We're going to miss you, but have great treasures to
remember you by.

  1. That looks like fun and the possibilities are limitless! Much better than getting that stuff on the front of my good t-shirts when I am cleaning the sink.

    1. Tania had the new Brother machine that will cut any image out of freezer paper, so yes the possibilities are endless.

  2. Yes, Marsha I agree. It's a clever technique and I like that you get instant results.

    1. Ann, I'm thinking of some pretty fabrics to go with the kangaroos that some sweet lady gifted me. Now to find the right pattern to bring it all together.

  3. Looks like fun, but I doubt I could do it. I think I better just cheer you on! ---"Love"

  4. Those are really neat! But I'd better watch out next time I clean the tub, as I use the soft scrub variety with bleach in it...I might make some of those beauties out of my own clothes if I'm not careful. (And they're sure to look horrible when so unplanned!) Which are yours? And will we see them in something beautiful soon? I hope so!
